Choosing the Right Pool Paving Material

Choosing the Right Pool Paving Material

When you want to accent your pool, nothing does it better than pool paving. But how do you choose the right pool paving for your pool deck and walkways? There are certain pool pavers that most homeowners use. Each one has its benefits and drawbacks. These are some of the options and their pros and cons in order of affordability:

Rubber Pool Paving

Cheaper than concrete, brick, stone and asphalt, rubber pool paving is surprisingly not the typical pool side material for homeowners. On top of being the most affordable, rubber pool paving is the most slip resistant, it’s extremely durable lasting decades, heat resistant, doesn’t chip or crack, eco-friendly, provides a softer surface for falls improving pool safety, and it’s easy to keep clean and sterile.

Asphalt Pool Paving

Asphalt is also cheaper than stone paving and brick and is very easy to apply, requires little maintenance, is the same material and color of many driveways, and installation labor costs are the lowest. If improperly installed, cracking and crumbling can ruin your pool paving.

Concrete Pool Paving

The most popular pool paving material, concrete has many pros, including affordability, sturdiness, smoothness, and the most options for design patterns and themes. Plus, concrete won’t disintegrate due to contact with chlorine and weather and does not fade over time. Installation can be expensive and labor intensive. Usually requires improvements over time.

Brick Pool Paving

Of all of the natural pool paving material, brick is the most expensive, next to stone pool paving. Brick is resistant to chemicals and is used for decorative purposes. The upside is that it won’t fade or crack in direct sunlight. However, brick can be slippery when wet and gets hot in the sun and can burn your feet.

Stone Pool Paving

Natural stone pool paving is the most expensive type of pool paving. Using materials that are naturally formed in the earth, these materials come in a variety of earth stones, including limestone, granite and marble. Stone pavers are weather resistant, low maintenance, beautiful and strong.

Choosing the right pool paving depends on your personal priorities. For function, concrete is king, for affordability, asphalt is almost as good, and for appeal, you can’t beat stone pool paving!

Remember to take personal style, preferences, and budget into account when deciding on the right pool paving option for you and you’re sure to find a winning choice.
