I Think My Pool May Need to be Resurfaced, What Should I Do?
No one is pleased to learn their pool finish has worn out or become damaged. It was probably the last thing on your mind when you first installed the pool or purchased your home. But the truth is, deterioration is inevitable. In time every pool will need to be resurfaced. Pool finishes wear over time from a variety of factors including, pool chemicals (especially if improperly balanced), the natural erosion of the plaster finish, and occasionally more serious factors such as destabilization of the substrate or contact with groundwater. If you have begun to see cracking, pitting, etching, staining, or other signs of wear, it’s time to bring in a professional to assess the situation.
We Offer Several Tampa Pool Resurfacing Options to Fit Your Needs and Budget
Before hiring any pool contractor to resurface your pool, it helps to learn all you can about the process so you can make informed decisions based on your unique circumstances. At Advanced Pool & Spa, we want to make sure you are fully aware of the variety of resurfacing options available, and that you find answers to your questions.
In years past, almost all pools were constructed using a marcite (plaster) finish. Back then a marcite finish had an extremely long useful life, due to the fact that it contained asbestos. Asbestos has since been determined to be hazardous, and modern marcite does not contain it. Marcite’s useful life has been reduced, but it remains an affordable, viable solution for some pools.
For most situations, an exposed aggregate finish will prove to be an ideal choice. We are proud to offer Marquis Quartz exposed aggregate finishes containing natural quartz. These finishes are much preferred over traditional marble-based plaster. They are available in custom colors and carry a 10-year material warranty (5 year for commercial remodels). For those looking for a finish that is smoother to the touch, we also offer mini-pebble finishes. These premium exposed aggregate finishes are also available in custom colors, and carry a limited lifetime materials warranty. Tile can be a beautiful, albeit more costly, alternative as well.
Your Resurfaced Pool will Shine Like New
No matter what finish you choose, resurfacing will make a huge difference in the appearance of your pool. The bright, smooth surface will reflect light from the sky and give your pool water an inviting blue tint. Keep in mind resurfacing a residential swimming pool is not like other home improvement projects. We’ve seen do-it-yourself refinishes of Tampa pools turn into disasters many times. Make the wise investment and call the professionals at Advanced Pool & Spa. Everyone who comes for a swim in your new pool will thank you.
